What is inattentive ADHD?
Inattentive ADHD, once called ADD, is a presentation where attention, organisation and follow-through are the main difficulties, with few hyperactive symptoms. It's easy to miss because it's quiet.
Common signs in adults
Drifting off in conversations, careless mistakes, difficulty organising tasks, avoiding work that needs sustained mental effort, misplacing keys and phone, and being easily distracted by thoughts or noise.
How this test measures inattention
The ASRS includes nine inattention questions. Your results show an inattention score alongside the hyperactivity score so you can see which presentation fits you best.
Inattentive ADHD vs everyday distraction
Everyone gets distracted. ADHD is about symptoms that are frequent, long-standing since childhood and causing real problems at work, study or home.
Frequently asked questions
Is ADD the same as inattentive ADHD?
Yes. ADD is the older name; it's now called ADHD, predominantly inattentive presentation.
Can I have ADHD without being hyperactive?
Yes. Many adults, especially women, have mainly inattentive symptoms.
Does the test show my ADHD type?
It shows separate inattention and hyperactivity scores. Only a clinician can confirm the presentation.
Can teenagers or children take this test?
No. The ASRS v1.1 was validated for adults aged 18 and over. Children and teens need an age-appropriate assessment from a paediatrician, psychologist or child psychiatrist.
